Google’s latest project is to convert its free well-known email service, Gmail, into a new video and audio channel.
Gmail new venture will allow users to see and hear each other without needing to leave the email application. To do this they will simply need to acquire a Webcam and a free piece of downloadable software. However, this addition to the Gmail service is only available to participants with Gmail accounts with Windows or Macs. This means that unfortunately for Linux users, the traditional method of typing will still have to be used.
Overall, Gmail is not the most widely-used email account. With 113 million worldwide users it is still far behind the likes of Microsoft and Yahoo which boast worldwide user figures of 283 million and 274 millions respectively.
Finally, Google has also changed its Google Reader to allow it to setup RSS feeds from favourite websites in order to feature automatic translation of content into the chosen users’ language.
