Even in the age of multi-core processing one CPU just isn’t enough for some people. You may associate dual processors with expensive workstations and servers, but EVGA hopes that change that with its EVGA SR-X Dual Socket LGA 2011 motherboard. But make no mistake, this is no regular motherboard. The EVGA dual CPU motherboard is a beast!
Besides two processor sockets, there is a whopping 12 DDR3 memory slots– 8 for the primary processor and 4 for the secondary. SLI and Crossfire are of course supported. To power all this, SR-X Dual Socket LGA 2011 has two 6-pin and two 8-pin power connectors, plus an extra 6-pin for SLI or Crossfire. If that isn’t enough, EVGA also plans to include 7 PCI Express slots, two SAS connectors, 2 SATA 6.0Gbps ports and 4 SATA 3.0Gbps connectors. Compared to all this, the dual Gigabit Ethernet, eSATA, USB 3.0 Bluetooth sound ho-hum.
There’s no word yet on pricing, but release is set for the first half of 2012. Expect the EVGA dual CPU motherboard to set you back and arm and a leg, and something tells me a high-wattage power supply and monster case aren’t optional.
