AMD Istanbul 6 Core Server Ready By June

AMD have no officially annoucned that they plan to release a new six-core server, named Istanbul, by June this year. Way of ahead of schedule, this is AMD’s answer to Intel’s release of Dummington six-core CPUs alomst a year ago now.

With Intel’s Nehalem servers selling well since Q1, AMD needed to react and with their Direct Connect Architechture 2.0 that will allow to 12 connected cores or dual six-core CPUs still a year off launching, the Istnabul is the answer for them.

2010 should see AMD shipping its Opteron 6000 series CPUs for 2P and 4P servers and this will compete with Intel’s Nehalem EX platform ready for launch later this year.
